Concept
I needed to make a birthday present for my dad, and what better subject than his favorite dog? I'd wanted to do a project messing with RGB color channels and used needing a gift as an excuse to do so!
PROCESS
I found a picture of my Dad's dog, used Adobe Photoshop to split it into red, green and blue channels and etched each inverted on pieces of acrylic. I made an MDF base that would fit the panels and a strip of addressable LED's beneath them.
I tweaked the level of each color with potentiometers to get it looking most like the original photo before removing them and closing the case with an Arduino Nano inside. It's powered by a 5v power adapter and my Dad has it on a timer in his apartment!
